Town hold on for a dramatic seven-goal thriller against Golborne Sports
Bollington Town survived a nervy late fightback from Golborne Sports to seal a 4–3 victory at Congleton High School, with Philip Milsom, Ally Harrison-Virani, Zak James Mousa and Declan Hanks all on the scoresheet in a match that had everything — early goals, a goal-line clearance, a towering header and a dramatic final stretch that tested Town's resolve to its limits.
Goal — Philip Milsom
Town made the most electric of starts. Ally Harrison-Virani whipped in a corner from the left and Philip Milsom was perfectly positioned to finish from five yards, side-footing home to give Bollington an early lead. 1–0.
Ally Goes Close Immediately
Not content with her assist, Ally Harrison-Virani went looking for more just a minute later — winning the ball back from two defenders before driving a shot on target. The effort was deflected and no Town player was there to convert the rebound. A glorious chance to make it two.
Gatward Shown Yellow
Zach Gatward was booked for a firm challenge, picking up an early caution that he would have to manage carefully for the rest of the match.
Goal — Ally Harrison-Virani
Town doubled their advantage in outstanding fashion. Ally Harrison-Virani won possession back from the opposition with real determination and immediately drove forward, unleashing a composed strike from 10 yards that left the keeper with no chance. 2–0.
Berkeley Denied by Goal-Line Clearance
Maxwell Berkeley had a gilt-edged chance to put the game beyond Golborne when he found himself bearing down on an open goal, but an opposition centre-back produced a last-ditch clearance right off the line. A remarkable let-off for the visitors — and a huge moment in the match.
Golborne Pull One Back
Against the run of play, Golborne Sports pulled a goal back to make it 2–1. Town had been dominant but were punished for failing to add that third when the chances were there. The game was back on.
Mousa Creates for Berkeley
Town looked to reassert themselves when Zak James Mousa delivered a dangerous cross to find Maxwell Berkeley in the box, but the chance just evaded him as Golborne scrambled it clear.
Harrison-Virani Free Kick Saved
Ally Harrison-Virani had a free kick from a promising position but the Golborne goalkeeper got down well to push it away. Town were pressing hard to restore the two-goal cushion before the break.
Joyce Denies from Set Piece
At the other end, Matthew Joyce was called into action to deal with a Golborne free kick, getting down sharply to make a composed stop and keep Town's lead intact heading into half time.
Harrison-Virani Tests the Keeper
Town came out for the second half with intent. Ally Harrison-Virani had a shot on target almost immediately after the restart, continuing to probe the Golborne goalkeeper.
Goal — Zak James Mousa
Town restored the two-goal cushion with a stunning header. Ally Harrison-Virani swung in a perfectly weighted corner and Zak James Mousa powered a header home with real authority. A quality goal that looked to have settled the contest. 3–1.
Golborne No.9 Booked in the Box
Golborne's number nine was shown a yellow card for a reckless challenge on Matthew Joyce inside the box.
Mousa Goes Close Again
Zak James Mousa had a chance to put the game completely out of reach, finding himself in a dangerous position, but the effort just failed to find the target. Town continued to ask questions.
Golborne Make It 3–2
Golborne pulled another back to make it 3–2 and suddenly the game had a very different complexion. Town's lead was cut to one goal with twenty minutes remaining and nerves were jangling on the touchline.
Tactical Change — Richardson Introduced
George Richardson came on to replace Maxwell Berkeley, with Ally Harrison-Virani shifting into centre forward.
Goal — Declan Hanks
Town responded with the goal that proved decisive. Ally Harrison-Virani, now operating as centre forward, played a perfectly timed pass to release Declan Hanks, who finished with composure to restore the two-goal cushion. A brilliant response. 4–2.
Town Press for a Fifth
Town looked to kill the game off completely when substitute George Richardson drove a shot on target that tested the Golborne keeper, looking to add a fifth and put the result beyond any doubt.
Golborne Pull It Back to 4–3
The tension hit its peak when Golborne scored again almost immediately to make it 4–3. Town's two-goal lead had been wiped away in a matter of minutes and there were eight nervy minutes still to play.
Ally Goes for the Killer Blow
Deep in stoppage time, Ally Harrison-Virani had a shot on target that could have sealed the points emphatically, but the Golborne keeper held firm. Town survived the final whistle to claim a dramatic and hard-fought three points.
Ally was involved in every single one of our goals today — that's the kind of player who wins you matches.
Match Verdict
Bollington Town produced a breathless performance at Congleton High School, flying out of the blocks through Philip Milsom's early corner finish and Ally Harrison-Virani's composed 10-yard strike to lead 2–0. Maxwell Berkeley was desperately unfortunate not to make it three when a goal-line clearance denied what looked a certain goal, and Golborne's reply on 30 minutes — against the run of play — felt harsh on a dominant Town. A Matthew Joyce save from a late first-half free kick kept the lead intact.
The second half belonged to Town for long stretches. Mousa's towering header from a Harrison-Virani corner restored the two-goal cushion and appeared to have settled things — but Golborne had other ideas, pulling it back to 3–2 on 70 minutes to set up a tense final twenty. Town responded brilliantly: Richardson's introduction gave fresh legs, and Harrison-Virani's precise pass set up Declan Hanks to make it 4–2 with a cool finish on 75. A Golborne goal on 82 minutes made for a nervy final eight minutes, but Town held on.
Ally Harrison-Virani was outstanding from first to last — assisting the opener, scoring the second, winning the corner for the third, and teeing up the fourth. Zak James Mousa's header was a moment of real quality, and Philip Milsom took his chance brilliantly when it came early doors. A dramatic victory, and a deserved one.
